FLagler county chamber and palm coast students team up in the name of art

Palm Coast, Fla. – The Flagler County Chamber and some very innovative Flagler Palm Coast High School students have something to be very excited about next week. They have together created an event to involve the entire community in a global art movement.

On April 10, the Chamber will host a dinner where the students from Project A.R.T. (Artisans Respected through Trade) will auction off unique, handmade pieces of art at incredibly reasonable prices. From pottery to paintings, there will be unique art to choose from providing invaluable rewards to impoverished countries like Kenya, Vietnam, Peru, Nicaragua, who produce the art.

These students, the “Community Problem Solvers,” came up with the idea after hearing of another school in Florida who had been purchasing artwork from the Fair Trade Federation, who offers the security of doing business with retailers who don’t use child labor.

By purchasing through the Fair Trade Federation, the money spent will help support families within the communities that produce the artwork, not only financially but through increased value in the artisans’ work.

The students and the Chamber will hold both live and silent auctions during the evening.

The dinner, held at the Palm Coast Yacht Club on Yacht Club Drive, will begin with networking at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner. The cost of the event is $25 per person with an RSVP to the Chamber at (386) 437-0106.
